Calibration
Developing, validating and calibrating monitors over transcripts with Inspect Scout.
WarningOutline
This page is an outline: a summary and the sections planned for it, not yet the documentation. The feature it describes is planned and not yet built. See Getting Started for a worked example.
Overview
How to measure a monitor before anything acts on it, by replaying it over transcripts with Inspect Scout. Covers running a monitor as a Scout scanner, labelling steps to build a validation set, precision and recall, turning a benign score distribution into a threshold, and versioning monitors so a calibration records what it measured.
Planned Sections
- The development loop: record, replay, label, validate, calibrate
- Recording a benign distribution with observe() (available now)
- A monitor as a Scout scanner,
as_scanner()(planned) - Validation sets: labelling steps in Scout View; step ids
- Precision, recall and F1 over the validation set
calibrate(): thresholds from a benign distribution, per dimension (planned)- Versioning a monitor with
@monitor(version=...) - Transcripts from other sources: proxies, coding agents
